Ash has been dancing since they were 3 years old and competing since they were 6! Dance and creativity has been fundamental and center to their life for as long as they can remember, with teaching and choreography at the forefront of their goals.
Ash graduated from Canadian Dance Company in 2018, and soon after joined the UTM dance team, and later, the University of Waterloo Dance Company. They are currently captain of their dance team at the University of Waterloo, where they have also been a core choreographer for the past 2 years and fundamental to the teams success.
In studio, Ash had the opportunity to work with a plethora of talented choreographers, including Talia Favia, Mia Michaels, Travis Wall, Sorah Yang, Jade Whitney, and more. Ash was on Team Canada Hip Hop, competing in Italy, and has been showcased in television shows, film premieres and commercials, such as The Next Step. They have also had the opportunity to dance in club shows like Fever After Dark, and as a back up dancer in music videos. They have assisted for countless choreographers and conventions, including Move Dance Competition and Jade Whitney. Ash has won 1st overall soloist and trio using their own choreography, and has consistently placed with her solos over the years. In their final year of competitive dance they won a talent scholarship, given by Shawn Desmond, which was a huge honour.
Ash has been teaching dance in studio since they were 17 years old and has won many choreography awards, with solos, trios and group dances in studio, choreography and university competitions. They have taught all ages, and have choreographed Contemporary, Open, Hip Hop and Jazz competitive dances. Ash hopes to continue to teach happiness, expression and freedom through dance, with one of their biggest goals being to create a fun and safe environment for all of their students.
Ash’s love for teaching has shown to express itself in other areas of their life as well. Ash is currently still in school at the University of Waterloo, studying Environmental Science and Geography. They hope to work in the field of natural hazards, teaching about the threats of climate change on hazard frequency, intensity and mapping, and then becoming a professor in the field. Ash is currently going into their final year of their undergrad, and will be travelling to Indonesia to complete research for their thesis. Ash’s biggest dream is to travel around the world, teaching lectures and completing research to help those greatest effected by hazards and climate change.
Overall, Ash is very dedicated and involved with that they are passionate about. They cannot wait to teach at IN.MOTION as a full time teacher, and hope to fulfill, motivate and become friends with all of the students, staff and parents they meet!
