COURTNEY MARTINEC, CONTEMPORARY, LYRICAL, JAZZ TEACHER
Courtney began dancing at the age of three and is trained in ballet, pointe, jazz, contemporary, modern, improvisation, hip hop, acro, and musical theatre. Courtney has performed and trained internationally with the Joffrey Ballet School in both New York City and Los Angeles, and as a member of the Canadian National Jazz, Modern, and Ballet Teams, competing at the IDO World Dance Championships in Poland.
At the age of 16, Courtney produced her own choreographer’s showcase, Emerge, bringing together more than 80 young artists from across Southern Ontario.
Courtney graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. There, she choreographed and performed with the University of Waterloo Dance Company, with whom she won multiple awards and scholarships for both her performance and choreography.
Courtney has performed at Fever After Dark, The Bazaar, Young Creators Challenge, London Fringe Festival, and Toronto’s Original Choreographer’s Ball. She has danced in multiple full-length shows with Royal Caribbean Cruises touring in Australia and New Zealand, and with Five Star Dance Company in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Courtney can also be seen as a principal dancer in Négar’s music video Woman and Shauneese Morrison’s dance video Willful Ignorance.
Courtney casted, choreographed, and performed in John Maksym’s New Vibrations music video, as well as CXViolet’s short film Hackerboy and Adelaide Escape from Neon City. Her choreography and performances on screen have been internationally recognized by esteemed organizations including the Cannes film awards.
Courtney has had the opportunity to share dance with artists of all mediums. She has provided movement coaching for music artists, taught beginner movement workshops for international students, led dance parties at corporate events, and provided movement coaching and choreography for weddings.
Courtney believes in dance as a means to connect back to ourselves and to others, and she is grateful to be able to share her passion for dance with the students at IN.MOTION.
