Jamie Collis grew up as a competitive dancer at Boogie Down Studios, where she trained in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary and hip-hop. Jamie has worked with award-winning choreographers such as Cora Kozaris, Jade Whitney, Rebecca Zizek, Brodie Rachelle Masse and Mark Samuels. While competing, Jamie sought mentorship from her teachers and had the opportunity to strengthen her choreographic skills by working closely with the mini and teen dancers. This is where she discovered her own passion for choreography. Jamie graduated from Boogie Down in 2022, with the desire of continuing her dance journey, and the pursuit of finding opportunities that would allow her to ignite a passion for dancers, as an emerging choreographer and educator.
Jamie is currently working towards her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. During Jamie’s post-secondary endeavours, she has been able to continue her love for dance, finding a place on Laurier’s Competitive Dance Team, and working closely with other dancers who also wanted to pursue dance alongside their other interests. The Laurier Competitive Dance Team quickly became a place where Jamie could allow her creative abilities as a dancer and choreographer to evolve. In the Fall, Jamie has been given the opportunity to be the team's “Team Bonding Leader” where she will create team-building exercises that will connect her teammates with the hopes of leading them towards a successful competitive season.
In Jamie’s final year as a competitive dancer, she was awarded and recognized for her outstanding performances. Jamie has had the opportunity to self-choreograph solos, which were recognized through special awards. Her self-choreography exploration has continued on the Laurier Competitive Dance Team.
Hip-hop has always been a special form of dance for Jamie as she is able to embody her, bubbly energetic self. Jamie and her teammates had the opportunity to work with choreographer Mark Samuels, who led them to receive the overall highest-scoring discipline awards in this genre at competitions. Further, Jamie has received the highest-scoring discipline awards in tap and contemporary, as well as the highest-scoring soloist awards and the highest-scoring routine of the competition in her final dance season in 2022. Jamie is continuing to take classes from young emerging artists around the GTA with the goal of growing her artistry at drop-in studios such as Studio North Toronto.
Jamie considers herself quite lucky to have found a love for dance. Sharing her passion for the art form with young dancers and pushing them to their fullest capabilities is something that excites Jamie. Jamie is thrill
